Whenever people lie down on memory mattress foam for the first time, it’s usually unlike anything they’ve ever felt before. Memory foam is not firm or bouncy like spring/coil mattresses, yet it is not so soft that you feel like you’re sinking in quicksand when you lie down. It is a material that is strong enough to support your weight, but malleable enough to cushion your body’s pressure points so that you don’t feel waking aches and pains.
NASA developed this miracle material for airplane seats in the 1960s. It was designed not only to protect them from impacts and vibrations but to evenly distribute people’s body weight for maximum comfort. It did this by conforming to the shape of someone’s body when pressure was applied to it.
According to the Sleep Foundation, this even distribution of weight and contouring around a sleeper’s body helps keep your spine aligned, resulting in less tossing, turning, and back pain. Since memory foam distributes your weight evenly, it also reduces pain in joints and areas that experience the most pressure during sleep. Everyone’s body is unique, so these pressure points might be in different places for different people, but memory foam’s malleability helps your mattress adjust to your body and sleeping habits.
Because of this, memory mattresses help promote more restful sleep and a better quality of life. Aches and pains can make sleep a stressful experience, but memory foam will help promote healthier, more comfortable sleeping habits.
